033. 4 Mindsets Killing Your Success

I get it, navigating the day-to-day ups and downs of your life can be difficult; your mind races, fear and doubt surface on occasions and people can be harsh critics. But one thing I have learned from my entrepreneurial journey is with age comes wisdom. I wouldn’t change anything I’ve done thus far, because each leg of my journey was to prepare me for the next one. I’ve learned a lot and grown tremendously. As I think back on getting started, the toughest part about being an entrepreneur is overcoming my own ideals of success and mindsets. Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy, killing our chances at success. Below are four self-limiting and disparaging mindsets or behaviors that bound your success.

It’s All YOU

One of the mindsets that absolutely hinders your entrepreneurial progression is the idea that your hustle is only for you and about you. This goes two-fold. First off, yes your dreams and your success is your responsibility. However, no woman accomplishes her dreams alone. It takes of tribe of support, mentorship, education and good will. Don’t think that you can conquer your dreams without the assistant of others, my dear, because you are sadly mistaking. If nothing else allow a mentor to help you along the way by sharing their leadership and experiences with you. Not all lessons in life have a price. Secondly, consider the purpose of your hustle. Your hustle should not be about money or you. It is all about enhancing your community and serving others with your gifts and talents. God did not afford you all your greatness for it to be bottled inside you for personal use only. Share it with the world around you.

I’ve said it time and time again, your health is wealth. Accomplishing your dreams is all about opportunity, preparation, commitment and most importantly purpose. The whole team #nosleep and #nodaysoff movements are without question ludicrous and extremely detrimental to your wellbeing and success. If you want to elevate your hustle and ultimately your success, you need sleep! You need days off! You better believe Oprah is getting her sleep in, along with all the other phenomenal female trailblazers. You have to allow your body sufficient time to relax, unwind and recharge. I’m team no no sleep! Yes, I realize that is a double negative, because I’m going to get my sleep in. Being the insomniac that I am I value sleep when I can get it.

Perfect is as Perfect Does, eh?

You are not perfect nor does your path to greatness need to be. There is nothing wrong with trying your best, seeking order and effectively planning your course of action, but don’t dwell on being a perfectionist. The common misconception with perfection is that people assume to be perfect makes you are pro at what you are doing. Yet, research shows that is not the case; striving for perfectionism generally leads to resistance to change, and at times misdirected emotions of frustration or anger. Break your habit of perfection, if you do not, your best will never be good enough. You will continuously create new ideas of how things could be better. Set realistic expectations and conquer them. Stop procrastinating let your soul guide you in the direction you need to go. Don’t wait until you think everything is perfect, the stars are aligned and the moon is hung just right before you decide to take action. Remember the bigger picture and what your ultimately strive to accomplish.

Worrying About What Others Think

Be your own person, rejoice in your individuality. Do your own thing, unapologetically. People are entitled to think what they want and feel how they feel, as are you. If you are relentlessly bothered about what other people think, you will never get to where you need to go in life. This is your life to live, so live it according to your values and beliefs. Make moves that are conducive to your success and happiness. You are not doing yourself any favors if the moves you make are geared around acceptance or the fear of disapproval from others. In fact you are really sabotaging your own success. Besides, people’s thought and opinions change all the time. The same person who told you not to do something, will turn around and be the first person to say they knew you could. Be accountable for your actions. Be willing to make decisions and accepting of the consequences rather good or bad. Either way, when you do things your way you will either be enthusiastically successful or learn a remarkable lesson from the journey.
